Clearly I've retrogressed to a pictorial format of blogging. Seems less tedious this way but why blog if thought it to be nondescript to begin with. Grrr.

I need to document some things though. Like how this online journal is now four years old, how the first term of my final year at uni started and ended, how I went home for a short but incredibly blissful break, how second term just began and how I'm trying to get my life sorted. Okay, that's about it. I have a few notable additions to the circle of usual friends this year too which has been lovely, and oh, I have Wednesdays off. Yay (to study of course!).

Anyway, I have always started off the year with a concept resembling a resolution as mentioned in previous years *omg so tempted to link back but realised that would contradict my disabling of archives on the sidebar* and this year, the notion is based on a quote from an episode of Mad Men, season 3:

Dear Diary,

This past week I learnt that being free spirited doesn't come easy. Attending events that include chemical substances of dubious legality doesn't make me any less afraid of losing control. Even when I'm in the presence of people I would probably never see again ever. It is to be hoped that excluding myself from experiencing some of these easily attainable pleasures would ensure me some level of perpetual happiness in the future.

I learnt that friends cannot be everything you expect them to be and that perhaps a heart-wrenching confessional on boundaries is to be had. I wouldn't say I liked you, if I truly didn't - actually I lie, the more astonishing thing here is that, I have. Gah, this must be retracted at the earliest instance.

I feel the best way to deal with personal conflicts is to let things unravel themselves and let wounds heal naturally. And so, with this blog post, I am going to release all the pent up bad juju and believe that whatever will be, will be. December should be filled with nothing but love and good times.

I hate it when my worlds collide.

Having no internet connection at home absolutely sucks. I have resorted to sitting at the closest Starbucks to home (Baker St) between lectures and errands and finishing coursework just to get my daily dose of news-feeds, e-mails and yes, Facebook. I mostly access Twitter from my iPhone.

Also, I've discovered I'm more fearless than I thought and did something I would never (in the usual sense) do. Even if it IS something relatively inconsequential, I can hardly believe it happened. Que Sera Sera.

Clearing out objects that I owned proved to be more straightfoward than I thought. Moving home provided the perfect opportunity to dispose of items that have accumulated for the past couple of years. Perhaps it's because life hasn't turned out a conventional way for me that I now find it almost effortless to move on. I threw out and/or recycled close to half of my belongings in this part of the world- books, magazines, DVDs, clothing, shoes and sheets upon sheets of paper. Even gifts/letters that I previously thought had sentimental value didn't stand a chance. I retained what I thought will probably be of use when needed.

It is obviously revitalising to experience a change in environment but even more so when done with the love and support of ones' family, and for that I am eternally grateful. In the spirit of the month of Syawal, my recent birth date, adoring old friends, meeting new people and having a caring family, here's to a year focused on academia, job hunting and being happy.

Grrrrr, I really want to go for U2 (read stressed, like youuuuuu toooooo) : 14th or 15th August 2009 at Wembley Stadium. Opening acts are Elbow and Glasvegas respectively. Naturally, tickets are sold out - 80,000 solid - both nights, and I absolutely do not want to get carried away on eBay. Too much £££ for good seats so you can imagine my frustration. The outcome of this remains to be seen, though I highly doubt I'd find a way. :( Prospects look bleak.

Gaaaaaah, I really should fast-forward this blog to real-time. The issue: no specific scheduled time to think out posts properly (ie. use correct grammar, assorted vocabulary - i know it's laughable but that is what i feebly attempt to do). It's no wonder professional bloggers are far and wide now. The standard of popular blogs (blogs that I read, anyway) are pretty high which makes me feel fortunate that we don't have to scour newspapers/magazines for riveting opinion/daily reads.

Latitude Festival was three weeks ago. Rain or shine, it was incredibly fun. If you want to know what it is exactly, click here. You'll find that Latitude is definitely more than the usual music fest. It covers just about the whole spectrum of performing arts (music, theatre, literature, poetry, dance, cabaret amongst others). Some flashing photography* to tickle your fancy.

Here's to more festivals in the future.

I don't normally care to give gigs I go for any reviews because frankly, I'm there because I like the music ergo by default, my pre-existing interest would make me a biased audience member. I've been to a wide array of music gigs (even ones where they play experimental music); and I would like to think that I could mostly enjoy myself anywhere with any type of production as long as the sound is good*. I mean, if you're going to go in with preconceived rejecting notions about the particular artiste or what you think would serve (you) as a better concert, I think it's best to not attend in the first place.

Granted, most of the concerts I've attended are of commercial standards and of the popular genre, so admittedly, I'm the type of attendee that likes to get up and spaz. However, I can honestly say that I do enjoy keeping still and listening quietly to instrumentalists/lyricists all the same. I don't know, there's just something absolutely magical about good* live music. It's a marvellous type of high.

The past couple of gigs I've attended all have had to do with heavy rotation listens in the past year and I feel ever so fortunate that I get to catch these artistes in live performances.

I made it through three days of not being online last weekend, a feat I somehow thought impossible although to be fair, I was surrounded by endless forms of leisurely activities. The last time I had been away from the computer for longer was during the summer of 2006 for seven days; and that was in search of religious solitude and being in continual prayer.

Will further elaborate when I find time (and desire) to write a compelling description of recent events. It would appear that I only manage quick (and often incoherent) updates even though my intention is not always as such.

You can't blame me. Since my weekdays are full, I like to spend my weekends doing semi-mindless things, though one could certainly argue that observing art is a productive pastime. I enjoy visiting art museums, albeit the essence of said creative activity for those who do not study it is, not necessarily intelligible. These photos were taken within the outdoor area of Tate Modern - I seem to visit this particular Tate annually; would link back but my archives are now wilfully defunct.
